What is Learner’s License
Learner’s license is a kind of short term license giving to the individual who are willing to drive vehicle in public places. But it’s not a permanent license.
That means, once you get a learning license you will be given a temporary authority to drive vehicle of low capacity for certain period of time. Once the specified time is over your authority to drive will automatically be nullified.
Moreover, it is typically the first stage of getting a permanent driving license and no one can apply for permanent driving license directly skipping this stage (exception are foreign and native diplomats).
Learner’s License Age Limit
An individual under the age of 18 years or above shall be given a learners license to drive a motor cycle without gear. That means, if your present age is not 18 years you can still apply for learner’s license with the consent of your parents.
Learner License Eligibility
There is no particular restrictions on nationality, physically, or qualification to obtain a learners license. An illiterate person can also apply for LL. The only notable eligibility to be required for obtaining a learner’s license are –
- Applicant has to be under eighteen years old
- Applicant has to pass online test (Stall Test)
Learner License Validity
Validity period for learner license is 6 months from the date of issuance and one can apply for permanent license after 30 days.
Documents Required to Apply Learner License
Following are the documents to be required at the time of filling out the online form. Additionally, It is advisable to keep the necessary documents near hand to accelerate the filling out process.
- Age proof
- Address proof (Present)
- Photo Id proof
Following documents are accepted as age proof, address proof, and photo id proof-
- Aadhaar Card
- Ration Card
- Voter Id Card
- Matriculation Certificate
- Pan Card
- Birth Certificate
- Any government documents where age and address are mentioned
Procedure to Apply Learner License Online
- First visit parivahan.gov.in.
- Hover your mouse over online services.
- Click on driving license related services, as shown below.

- Once you click on that, you will be redirected to sarathi.parivahan.gov.in. As shown below.

- This time, choose your state from the drop-down menu below.
- After choosing your preferable state, main screen Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India will open.
- Now, click on Apply for Learner License, as shown below.

- Once you click on, instruction for application submission screen will open.
- Read the instruction carefully before applying.
- Now, take a note of the stages to be performed by the applicant and press continue. As shown below.

- This time, select category and check appropriate choices from the below options.
- Click on submit button, as shown below.

- In this stage, authentication with E-KYC screen will open, as shown below.

- Here you have the two options to submit the application.
- Submit via aadhaar authentication.
- submit without aadhaar authentication.
However, if you choose to submit the application via aadhaar authentication, check that option. Otherwise, check submit without aadhaar authentication option. And click on submit.

- Now put you mobile number, and wait for OTP to come.
- Once you get the OTP, now put it on the box.
- And click on authenticate with sarathi button, as shown above.
- Now a screen will open as shown below, enter information as required.
- At last, self declaration form will be appeared and click on it.
- Finally, fill out the form as shown below and press submit.

- In the next step, document upload option will come as shown below.

- Upload the necessary documents here, as shown above.
Slot Booking
In this stage we will show you how to book slot for learner license and also how to check availability of slot for learner license test.
- Visit sarathi.parivahan.gov.in.
- Take your mouse cursor to the appointments drop-down menu.
- A screen will appear.
- Enter application number.
- Date of birth.
- Fill out captcha correctly.
- Now press submit.
- A screen looks like the below image will appear.

- At the right hand side slots timing will appear.
Now choose your preferred time for the test. That’s it.
Learner License Fee
Applicant has to pay 240 rupees as fee for learner license.
Payment Details
Once you done filling out above stages, it’s time to make payment for the test.
This can be done through SBI challan or Online. Here we will show you the online process.
- First visit Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
- Take your cursor to the fee payments drop-down menu and click on it.
- A new screen will open, which will look like the below image.

- Now put your application number and date of birth.
- Click on calculate fee in the enter details section.
- In the transaction details section, enter essential information as appropriate.
- Now in the payment option section, choose bank/gateway/treasury.
- Put your email id.
- Put captcha code correctly.
- Now hit the pay now button below.
- Take a print copy of the receipt once the payment is done.
- That’s it, you have successfully completed the whole process.
Learner License Application Status
You can see status of your application by following the steps below.
- Visit official website.
- Select driving license related services from the drop-down menu.
- Sarathi.parivahan.gov.in will open.
- Now take your mouse to the right hand corner where written application status.
- A screen will open with some fill in the blanks.
- Now insert your application no, date of birth, and captcha correctly.
- Hit the submit button. That’s it.
Download Learner License
You can easily download your learner license by following the below steps.
- First, you need to visit parivahan.gov.in.
- Select driving license related services from the drop-down menu.
- Sarathi.parivahan.gov.in will open.
- Now click on prin application form option.
- A new page will open.
- You can download learner license in three different options.
- Inserting your application no.
- Entering in your license number.
- By putting in your mobile no.
- Now insert your DOB in the box.
- Click on submit.
